In front of the Kansas City Life Insurance building is this small plaza that was built to commemorate 100 years of service and commitment to their customers. It was the first Kugel Floating Ball Fountain in Kansas City (there are now two others, one at Kaufmann Stadium and the other at the Overland Park Soccer Complex). The ball is made of red granite, is 3 feet in diameter and over a ton in weight. It floats on top of a thin film of water that runs out from underneath it. The ball will rotate freely in any direction as it floats and a person can make it rotate in whatever they direction they choose by touch.
